Hyper-pigmentation & How Melblok Works
Melblok reduces excess pigmentation at the root and makes skin naturally bright and even-toned. At the same time, Melblok treats the entire skin to reduce roughness, lines, wrinkles, open-pores, acne and other skin imperfections.
What is hyper-pigmentation?
"Hyper" means "Excess" and "Pigmentation" means the "Dark colour of skin". Hyper-pigmentation is the excess darkening of skin beyond its normal colour. Commonly known as simply 'Pigmentation', Hyper-pigmentation can occur as dark patches (melasma), dark spots, freckles, dark circles, acne marks, sun tanning, etc., giving skin a dull and uneven complexion. Hyper-pigmentation is often associated with rough skin, open pores, acne and uneven skin texture.
Does everyone get pigmentation?
No not necessarily, although anyone can get hyper-pigmentation due to skin damage, people with Pigmentation Prone Skin are much more likely to get pigmentation compared to those who do not have pigmentation prone skin. Most people who have pigmentation are also the ones with pigmentation prone skin. Have you noticed, even among your friends, there are people who go out into the sun a lot but don't get hyperpigmentation? While others even after taking good care of their skin end up with hyper-pigmentation on their skin such as dark patches, melasma, dark spots, etc.??
How is Pigmentation Prone Skin different and does it need special daily care?
Pigmentation prone skin is more sensitive to skin damage, so abrasive skin treatments or any other form of skin damage can very easily trigger the problem. In other people damage to skin can cause scarring, redness or acne, but in Pigmentation Prone Skin, damage leads to Pigmentation like - dark spots, dark patches (melasma), marks, dullness or general darkening of skin. Many people with pigmentation prone skin have a genetic tendency to develop hyper-pigmentation even without any skin damage!
Instead of the typical moisturizers and sunscreens, the daily care of pigmentation prone skin should consist of a skin care system that is capable of not only effectively reducing pigmentation and bringing the skin back to its original bright complexion, but also promote good skin health, help the skin cells to function naturally and provide continuous protection to the skin from environmental stresses while being safe for everyday use on even the most sensitive skin!
Why does it occur?
Hyper-pigmentation is a skin problem in which special cells called "Melanocytes", that reside in the deep part of the skin called the "Basal Layer", become over-active and start producing extra 'Melanin'. Melanin is the pigment that gives the skin it's color and this excess production of Melanin is a symptom of the over-activity of Melanocytes leading to problems like dark spots, patches on cheeks (melasma), stubborn tanning, etc. Hyper-pigmentation is very difficult to treat because the over-activity becomes permanent and typical skin care products don’t have the right scientific approach to treat it.
What can trigger Hyper-pigmentation?
Both external damage to the skin or internal factors can start Hyper-pigmentation in people with Pigmentation Prone Skin.. External damage may include – harmful cosmetic products, excessive sun exposure, anything that causes redness of skin, inflammation, injuries, acne, skin treatments such as laser treatments, chemical peeling, skin bleaching, derma rollers, scrubbing, heat, waxing, plucking, and even many homemade remedies.
Internal factors may include – diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid problems, allergies, hormonal changes due to puberty, pregnancy, menopause, hormone treatments, contraceptive pills, steroids, drugs or medications. In many cases Pigmentation prone skin is genetically inherited from family members.
Why is it so difficult to treat? Why do most products fail to deliver results?
The root cause of hyper-pigmentation is the over activity of Melanocytes. Along with melanocytes, the surrounding skin cells also behave abnormally leading to more pigmentation. Excess pigment production is only a symptom the actual problem is the over activity of the melanocyte cells combined with the abnormal functioning of the surrounding skin cells. Conventional anti-pigmentation creams, products or skin treatments either work only for the duration of the treatment or don't work at all because they suppress the symptom without treating the root cause or remove the top layer of the skin making skin appear brighter but not for the long term.
Some therapies or products cause even more pigmentation because they damage skin, causing it to become red and further dark! Pigmentation prone skin needs a special daily care system that normalizes the over-active Melanocytes and restore them to their natural, young and healthy form while keeping the sensitive skin protected from further external and internal damage.
What is Melblok & how does it work?
Melblok is a specialized Bio-Active skin care system for people with Hyper-pigmentation prone skin. Melblok is a daily care system that works at the basal layer of the skin providing Melanocytes and the surrounding skin cells just the right conditions to help them become normal again and revert to a healthier young form. The Day and Night Cream of the Melblok Home Kit helps reduce excess pigmentation at the root cause and makes skin naturally bright and even-toned. At the same time, the creams work on the entire skin to reduce roughness, lines, wrinkles, open-pores, acne and other skin imperfections. For skin that is clear, bright, even-toned and naturally pinkish, as well as smooth, firm and young at the cellular level.
What about treatments like Peeling and Lasers?
Treatments like Chemical Peelings, Lasers, Dermabrasion, Derma Rollers, Needling and similar treatments are abrasive in nature. That means that they work on the principle of skin healing after Damaging the skin. Problem is that Skin is first Damaged! Peels and other products containing high amounts of acids damage skin by chemically removing the top layer of the skin; Lasers damage by burnngburning the skin while techniques like dermabrasion, derma rollers, etc also damage the skin by piercing it. Any form of skin damage can lead to Hyper-pigmentation. Also, these techniques require very skilled operators and any slight mistake can be very costly. That is why these are not recommended treatments for pigmentation and are better suited for skin resurfacing. In our experience, Peels, Laser, etc., rarely reduce pigmentation and may make hyperpigmentation like melasma, spots, etc worse! That is why No Peels, Laser treatments, or any other harsh proceduresare ever done at Melblok Centers.
