NYC’s Small Business Services

In October, TiE New York’s featured open mic speaker was William Owh, Program Analyst, Capital Access of NYC’s Department of Small Business Services. The NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) helps unlock economic potential and create economic security for all New Yorkers by connecting New Yorkers to good jobs, creating stronger businesses, and building thriving neighborhoods across the five boroughs. Funding New York: An Investment and Innovation Summit.

William discussed the November 15 Innovation Summit where NYC’s SBS invited high-growth and R&D focused businesses to learn about investment, innovation and business development programs offered through SBA. Personnel from Washington, D.C. discussed the Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) and Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)/Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs.

You can learn how to start a business in New York City starting by a visit to the SBS website to investigate what it takes to create a business plan, register your business, finance your business, find and plan your space, prepare to open, hire a team, and open and operate.  They’ll also show help you to determine which permits, licenses and regulations matter to you.
